A competitor’s TikTok campaign looks like a blur of videos in the feed. Exported to a spreadsheet and filtered to the campaign window, it becomes a playbook you can read line by line: how often they posted, what hooks they used, which sounds and hashtags they leaned on, and — crucially — which posts actually performed.
Step 1: Define the account and the window
Pick the competitor profile and the dates that bound the campaign — a launch week, a sale, a seasonal push. Knowing the window keeps your analysis focused and your export small.
Step 2: Export the posts for that range
Paste the profile into the TikTok Posts Exporter and set the from–to date range. You get one row per post for exactly the campaign period — views, likes, comments, shares, saves, duration, caption, hashtags and sound.
Step 3: Rank by what worked
Sort the CSV by views, then compute an engagement rate ((likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views) and sort by that too. The two lists rarely match — a video with fewer views but a high engagement rate often reveals the message that truly resonated, which is the more useful signal for your own content.
Step 4: Decode the playbook
- Cadence. Posts per day across the window shows how hard they pushed and when they front-loaded.
- Hooks. Read the captions of the top ten posts — the opening lines are the hooks they bet on.
- Sounds & hashtags. Recurring music and tags across winners are the trends they rode. The Music and Hashtags columns make this a quick pivot table.
Step 5: Separate organic from paid
Not every campaign post is organic. Filter the Is Ad and Branded Content columns to isolate the promoted and creator-partnership posts, and check Has Shop Link plus the product columns to see exactly what they were selling and at what price. That tells you where they spent — and what the campaign was really optimizing for.
Turn it into your advantage
